Are Distributors Making Money?
This can be very difficult to achieve, depending on the company and the products that you choose to represent as a Distributor.
Most Network Marketing companies still train new distributors based on the oldschool approach of the 1940's - sell to and recruit your friends and families (i.e., your warm circle) to grow your business network.
Training materials, business meeting, books, digital products, and large-scale conventions are all designed to motivate you to get out there and start talking!
However, the business world has seen big changes in the last 60 years
- Increased product availability
- More competition and affordable prices in stores, offline and online
- Increased number of computer and Internet users
- Retail purchases on the Internet
- Disappearance of door to door salesmen
- And the list goes on.
Network Marketing old-school principles need to adapt to the current reality.
Old-school "golden nuggets" are leaving a huge majority of distributors with a feeling of
- failure
- loss of motivation
- loss of desire to continue with NM opportunities
Many spend a ton of their own money on additional training assistance but their monthly compensation totals remain low. (Distributors in a sense become
another source of income for the companies!)
So then, What Does It Take To Be Successful?
Successful Network Marketing involves four essential steps.
..
STEP 1) Relationship-Building /Lead Generation/Recruitment
For the sustained growth of any Network Marketing company, "new blood" must go hand in hand with the monthly retail of consumable, value-priced products.
STEP 2) Sales Conversion
Leads/prospects experience the product(s) and then concretely show a vote of confidence through their wallets.
There are two directions that STEP #2 could take
conversion to the product or conversion to the "business opportunity."
A focus on product, however, falls on the right side of the 80% benefit, 20% effort rule, as you will soon see.
STEP 3) Ongoing Consumption
Converted customers are regular, loyal users of the product line (i.e., satisfied, committed fans.)
The ideal scenario is when your customers' monthly purchases are automatically shipped to them!
STEP 4) Replication
Customers move to the next level of relationship with you, and want to know about the "business opportunity." They then become active distributors
themselves and begin to build their own downlines by introducing members of their families and close personal friends to the products. The four-step process repeats itself over and over again!
This sounds like a simple progression of action steps, right? Not necessarily.
If you have no leads, you have%u2026
- no sales conversion,
- no ongoing consumption,
- no one to replicate.
Offline, it's easy to understand why people fail at Network Marketing. Many people have trouble working up the courage to recruit and generate new leads.
They fear rejection.
Offline, it's not easy to approach strangers, those who are outside their "warm circle of prospects" (i.e., beyond friends, relatives, etc.).
That's why most offline Network Marketers accomplish very little. Most people just can't cold-sell.
But online?
Generating leads is made for the Net.
Even the most introverted individual can build a successful Network Marketing business without leaving the comfort of his or her home. It's no longer necessary to have a huge and continually expanding circle of social contacts or a powerful,
extroverted personality to become successful.
But that's not the way matters have unfolded. Most people in the industry try to force offline methods to an online world. Based on observable results, it's easy to conclude that this approach just doesn't work.
It's time to put the Net into Network Marketing.
In fact, there's no need to "push" (i.e., chase cold calls/prospects) when you can motivate potential customers and business-builders to "pull" (i.e., people want to call you to learn more). That's the beauty of the Net in a nutshell.
Network Marketing starts with recruiting/lead generation.
Generating leads is "made for the Net." But that's not the way matters have unfolded. Why? Because everyone in the industry has tried to force offline methods, online.
There's no need to push (i.e., chase cold calls/prospects) when you can motivate them to pull (i.e., they call you).
Put the NET into Network Marketing
You've Joined A Team - Now What?
Many new network marketers find themselves at a loss after the initial rush of joining a business has faded. They often ask: "What do I do next?"
Ideally, you will join an opportunity with a solid, proven marketing plan. Your upline team should provide you with solid instructions on what to do within your first 48 hours, and then what to start doing each day for your first month.If you are not getting plenty of attention from the person who brought you into the business you need to either find somebody else within the business who will help you, or leave and find a real sponsor who is willing to share their opportunity with you.
Beyond the help you get from your sponsor, your company should also provide plenty of literature, conference calls, pre-recorded training audios, and some sort of simple "Get Started" guide you can follow.
Here is what I recommend you do after joining your opportunity program:
Take 48 Hours To Get Organized And Make your Business Plan
During the first 48 hours you should read all the brochures, listen to all the audios, and watch all the videos you can get your hands on. Your sponsor should have given you a 48-hour assignment (if not ask them for one!) so be sure to follow that as well.
Get familiar with the product(s) and learn all you can about how the opportunity works in terms of building your team and getting paid. Please don't worry about becoming an expert in two days, just absorb as much as you can so you'll be confident and able to explain the basics to other people.
During your first 48 hours I highly recommend you:
1. Look at the compensation plan and then set a realistic, but challenging goal for your first 90 days. How much can you be earning within just three
months?
2. Do the same thing for six months, one year, and two years. And be sure to write these goals down!
3. Decide exactly how much time you can spend each week on your business. Go a step further and break this down on a daily level, deciding when you will be actively working your business every week. Don't worry about being absolutely precise here but do be sure you have a clear schedule; will you work two hours each evening, four hours on Saturdays, or what?
4. Based on what you have seen in the marketing material and heard from your sponsor, how do you plan to market your product and opportunity?
Will you start by talking to your friends about it? Will you rely heavily on the Internet? Will you post ads in newspapers and magazines? Get a
working idea of how you plan to promote, and go with tactics that allow you to leverage your strong points.
5. Make a list of people you know who could benefit from the product or who might be looking for a way to earn more money. I'm not telling you to go
out and try to sell your friends and family on joining your MLM. But I am saying writing out a list of everybody you know is a great exercise to
get your mind working, and you could very well turn up some great prospects this way - I sure did!
6. Plan your budget. First of all be absolutely sure you can afford your minimum monthly product purchases, even if it means setting some
money aside every week. Also you should decide how much money you have available for advertising and other expenses like traveling to seminars, etc.
7. Get a tape recorder or just get into the habit of talking to yourself a lot.
What I mean here is simple: network marketing involves a lot of talking to other people so you need to practice talking about your product and
opportunity in a very friendly, casual manner. You don't need to worry about closing sales, you only need to be able to strike up a conversation
and answer questions about what you do.
After Your First Two Days Start Building Productive Habits
After your 48 hours of study and orientation it is crucial that you find and stick with a good set of habits that will lead you to success within your opportunity. It is always the people who form productive habits that rise to the top in any business, and with network marketing this is especially true.
Here are a few success habits for you to put into action:
1. Decide to talk to x number of people about your business every day. This could mean you will mention the product to two people every day, ask one
person every day if they are looking for a new income stream, etc. The idea is to start talking about your business during the course of your everyday life!
2. Stay in regular contact with your sponsor and support team. Call them, email them, have lunch with them, whatever it takes! You need to watch
these people and learn as much as you can from them so you can be successful.
3. Be sure to participate in the weekly tele-seminars your company provides, and also attend any local meetings your organization offers. Stay plugged in so you can remain highly motivated and on the cutting edge.
4. Learn how to listen! Remember MLM is all about working with people, and people need to be listened to when they talk to you or send you an email. The very best way to find out what a prospect wants is to listen, and by giving people what they want you can quickly build lifelong income partnerships.
5. Stay up, up, up! Immerse yourself in motivational, business, marketing, and self-improvement content such as books, e-books, and audios. Highly successful entrepreneurs are always learning and growing, and it has been said that network marketing is a self-improvement program with a compensation plan attached to it.
Commit To Long-Term Growth!
MLM is not like playing the lotto or getting involved with some sort of silly get-rich-quick gimmick. This is a solid business model built on ethics, hard work, great products, and customer service.
You might do very well within your first month. And you might not.
Go ahead and plan on working this business hard for 24 months in an effort to build a rock solid foundation and a strong network of success partners.
By thinking long-term you will not be bothered by the little challenges that scare away the folks who are looking for an easy ride or a magic formula.

Sales Versus Marketing
Times have changed since network marketing was introduced to the world. We must be very careful how we approach our prospects, however.
Just because the profitability of network marketing is still viable doesn't mean that using the same old techniques that are used in the 80s is not going to get you the same results in the 21st century!Here is the irony part - when the term 'network marketing' was coined, everyone focuses on the first word rather than the second. In other words, they go around networking instead of marketing!
Most people who are in network marketing do not have a CLUE what marketing is all about! They go about recruiting friends and family on their name list while deluding themselves into thinking that they are 'sharing' or 'marketing' their products to people.
MYTH: Network marketers are not in sales, they are merely sharing products with other people
TRUTH: Network marketers who do not have a marketing system in place are actually in SALES.
What they are actually doing is that they are SELLING an idea to someone else. Whether they are selling the product or the opportunity, they are trying to convince someone to change their mind about what they have to offer.
Remember - Sharing is different from selling. It is totally different. If you are my friend and you are having a conversation with me right now, I would share with you about my passion for eating exotic food.
When I'm sharing with you, I've no intention to SELL you exotic food (unless I am getting commissions the restaurant that cooks exotic food).
Get the idea? Selling is different from sharing.
So the question is: How do I generate business without 'SELLING'?
I'm not saying that you do not sell any products. But what I'm saying is that the approach when it comes to marketing versus selling is totally different!
Take a doctor for example.
A doctor sells his or her services. But they don't go around recruiting patients or sending out flyers and advertisements saying that they are the best gynecologist in town!
When people go to the doctor, they seek the doctor's EXPERT advice. They listen intensively to every word they have to say and they will take whatever medicine they recommend. (So much different compared to network marketing recruitment, don't you think?)
The same principle applies to marketing!
Marketers sell products, but not in the way sales people do. A person who markets their business effectively is a LEADER. They are EXPERTS. They don't go around peddling their wares like a sleazy salesman. They are good at marketing themselves in such a way that they will always:
- Find the right target market
- Find the right people to join their downline (and their downlines will listen to them and do what they say)
- NOT waste their time on the wrong people
- Attract the right people to them.
Old School Versus The Google Revolution
There was a time in the past where people have NOT heard of network marketing. If you bring them to a 'dog and pony show' telling them about how network marketing will give them residual income and CHANGE THEIR LIFE, they will gaze in awe about this fantastic NEW opportunity.
Unfortunately, network marketing is totally different today! Times have changed and network marketing is nothing new.
An average person is approached by network marketing companies at least 10 times. I personally have been approached by network marketing reps and opportunities once every month!
The fact of the matter is, network marketing is opportunities are like the sand at the beach. There are more and more companies springing up like mushrooms after the rain and the COMPANY : DISTRIBUTOR ratio is going to shift dramatically. In other words, competition is going to kill the average network marketer as a result of the Google revolution.
Today, someone can go online and Google the search term - Network Marketing Opportunity or Home Based Business and get bombarded by countless business opportunities - and they can do it in the comfort of their own home without having to drive out to Star Bucks and listen to a stranger as they 'show the plan'.
The funny thing is a lot of network marketers do not realize that the Internet has revolutionized the way that network marketing is done!
Some people are sucking in paid leads like a vacuum cleaner and earning massive money online while the poor network marketing rep who are still making a name list of friends and family and going to be crushed by the competition!
Now that we know about the competition that we are up against, you have a better understanding on how to use the Internet to work FOR YOU rather than against you!
